INSTRUCTIONS

Discuss and decide which issue matters most to you, and then you will research organizations in the city which deal with this issue (non-profits, etc.). Take down all necessary information to make contact with this organization. You are now ready to make contact and move toward Part II. *To keep this project manageable, be sure to stay focused on three authors (that is, three authors either from our readings or what you find during your research) and what they say about the issue. What you decide upon—as well as your findings—will undoubtedly be complex, so let your texts guide your exploration and your service.

Part II: For your group service learning project, each member of your group must complete two hours (minimum) of community service for the organization you have chosen.

Part III: Description—What? In detail, describe what your group did. Be certain to name the organization for which you did your work. Be concise and detailed enough to let someone who does not know what you know about this organization or experienced what you did during your service to understand what it is you did and why.

Part IV: Analysis—What? In detail, your group should analyze your service and your participation both individually and as a group. Analysis deals with reasons, motives, and interpretations. Analysis also shows the thought process that you use to arrive at conclusions, interpretations, reasons, and demonstrates the significance of the examples you give, as well as demonstrating your sense of compassion. Your wiki must be at least six full pages. In addition, this assignment offers you the opportunity to be creative, using visual and aural materials as well as written communication to demonstrate what you have learned about a particular theme. Feel free to incorporate visual representations of the period that illustrate your points, such as art of the period, images of authors, or depictions of people and events. You also may use music files to create ambiance on your pages. Be sure to analyze each text, as well as the context in which it appeared: use the tools of rhetorical and literary analysis that we have learned about, and quote and cite specific details from your texts.
