Oregon State University Feminism in Artistic Movements Discussion
Question Description
Theworld we live in today has roots in hundreds of years of history. We live in atime of, among other things, rapidly rising atmospheric levels of CO2 and othergreenhouse gasses, the highest average global temperatures of recent millennia, accelerating species extinction rates, globalization, nationalism, andxenophobia. It can be argued that these phenomena are a legacy of the historyof Europe since 1500. Choose one of the topics in thequestion above — European ideas about nations, cities, individual or collectiveidentity, or the world beyond Europe — and explain howdevelopments from early-modern Europe can be seen as having legacies in theworld we live in today. Your examples must come from the coursematerials. Dont try to cover the whole period. Pick a smallertime-frame, an individual thinker, or an intellectual or artistic movement, and show how ideas or innovations represented by the individual(s) ormovement(s) are with us today. One last note, I KNOW this is a Eurocentricquestion, but this course is called Western Civilization and while I havebuilt the course to question Eurocentrism, I want you to be thinking in thisquestion about the impact of European history on the world over the last 500years.
